Free Instagram engagement rate calculator

Enter your followers and the likes, comments, shares and saves from your recent posts. See your engagement rate, how it's calculated and how it compares.

How to use it

  1. Open Instagram Insights and choose the posts you want to measure: one post, or your last 10 for example.
  2. Add up their likes, comments, shares and saves, and enter the totals with your follower count.
  3. Optional: enter the total reach of those posts to see your engagement rate by reach too.

Tips

Measure the same way every time

Pick a formula and a period (for example your last 10 posts) and stick to it, so month-to-month changes are real.

Saves and shares count most

They show people found the post worth keeping or passing on. Posts that get saved tend to reach more people.

Post consistently

Regular posting at the times your audience is online keeps engagement steady. Scheduling ahead with PilotPost makes that easy.

Repeat what works

Look at your top posts by engagement rate and make more of that format and topic.

Questions

How is engagement rate calculated?
The usual formula is total engagements (likes, comments, shares and saves) divided by followers, times 100. For several posts we use the average per post. Engagement rate by reach divides by the number of people who saw the posts instead.
What's a good engagement rate on Instagram?
As a rule of thumb, 1–3% is good and over 3% is excellent. It depends on your industry and size: smaller accounts usually have higher rates.
Followers or reach: which should I use?
Followers is easy to compare with other accounts. Reach is more accurate for your own posts, because it only counts people who actually saw them.
Do you store my numbers?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is sent to us.
