  1. Paste the full web address you want to share, starting with https://.
  2. Fill in the source, medium and campaign. Use Quick fill for common choices.
  3. Add a term or content tag if you want to tell similar links apart.
  4. Copy your tracked link and use it in your post, bio or newsletter.

Tips

Use lowercase

Analytics tools often treat “Instagram” and “instagram” as two different sources. Stick to lowercase.

Pick names and stick to them

Decide once, for example “social” as the medium for all networks, and use it every time so your reports stay clean.

Use content to compare posts

Give each post, story or bio link its own utm_content, like “story-1” or “bio-link”, to see which one works best.

Don't tag internal links

Use UTM links only for links you share outside your website. Tagging links between your own pages can mess up your reports.

Questions

What are UTM parameters?
They're short tags added to the end of a link, like ?utm_source=instagram. When someone clicks, your analytics reads them and records where the visit came from.
Which fields do I need?
Source (where the link is shared, like instagram), medium (the type of channel, like social or email) and campaign (why you're sharing it, like summer-sale). Term and content are optional extras.
Where do I see the results?
In Google Analytics, under your traffic acquisition reports, or in any analytics tool that reads UTM tags.
Is my link sent anywhere?
No. The link is built in your browser and nothing is stored. Paste it into your posts in PilotPost to track every network you schedule to.
