What is repost?

A repost is sharing someone else's content on your own profile or feed so your followers can see it, usually with credit to the original creator.

Reposting helps you share valuable content without creating everything yourself. It can highlight customer photos, partner news or useful tips. It also builds goodwill with the people whose content you share, since they get extra exposure.

Many networks have a built-in repost button, including X, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn and TikTok. These keep the original author's name attached. On Instagram, people often share posts to stories, and some formats can be reposted directly. When there is no built-in option, people may repost by downloading and uploading, which requires permission and clear credit.

Always credit the original creator by tagging or mentioning them. Ask permission before reposting customer photos or videos outside built-in features. Only repost content that fits your brand and that your audience will find useful. Balance reposts with your own original posts.

Example

A fitness studio reposts members' workout photos to its stories, always tagging the member who shared them.
