What is comment?

A comment is a written reply someone leaves under a social media post, allowing people to react, ask questions or start conversations with the poster and others.

Comments are one of the most valuable forms of engagement. They show that people cared enough to write something, and many networks treat active conversation as a sign that a post is worth showing to more people. Comments also give you direct feedback from your audience.

Almost every network allows comments, often with options to reply, like or pin a comment. Many let you filter out offensive words, limit who can comment or hide unwanted replies. On busy accounts, comments can arrive across several networks at once, which makes keeping up a challenge.

Reply to comments promptly and personally, especially questions. Ask open questions in your captions to invite more responses. Handle complaints politely, and move private details such as order numbers into direct messages.

Example

A shoe repair shop replies to every comment under its before-and-after photos, answering questions about prices and turnaround times.
