What is Threads?

Threads is a text-focused social app from Meta, linked to Instagram accounts, where people share short posts, images and video and join public conversations.

Threads offers another place for brands to have casual, public conversations. Because it is connected to Instagram, many businesses can reach people who already know them. It works well for quick thoughts, questions and behind-the-scenes updates that would feel too light for a polished Instagram post.

You sign in with your Instagram account and can bring over your profile details. Posts can include text, photos, videos and links, and people can like, reply, repost and quote. The feed mixes accounts you follow with recommended posts. Threads also connects to the wider fediverse, so some posts can be seen on other compatible services.

Write in a conversational tone and ask open questions. Reply to comments to build discussion. Post regularly, since the feed moves quickly. Reuse ideas from your other channels, but rewrite them to fit the relaxed style.

Example

A small wine bar uses Threads to ask followers what new bottles they want to try, then features the winners on its menu.
