What is thread?

A thread is a series of connected posts by the same author, linked in order, used to share a longer idea or story on a social network.

Threads let you go deeper than a single short post allows. They are useful for step-by-step guides, stories, lists and explanations. A good thread can earn lots of engagement because readers who enjoy the first post often read to the end.

On X, Threads and Bluesky, you create a thread by replying to your own post or by adding posts before you publish. Each post appears in sequence, and people can reply to any part. The word thread is also used for a chain of comments on Facebook, LinkedIn or forums.

Make the first post a strong hook that promises a clear payoff. Keep each post focused on one point. Number posts if it helps readers follow along. End with a summary or call to action, such as following you for more.

Example

A personal finance coach writes a short thread breaking down five simple budgeting habits for freelancers.
