What is bio?

A bio is the short description on a social media profile that tells visitors who you are, what you offer and often what to do next.

Your bio is like a mini sales pitch. When someone visits your profile from a post or search, the bio helps them decide in seconds whether to follow, visit your website or move on. A clear bio can turn curious visitors into followers and customers.

Every major network has a bio or about section, though the space and features differ. Some allow a clickable link, some allow mentions of other accounts or hashtags, and business profiles may show contact buttons, opening hours or a category. Length limits vary by network and change over time.

Say plainly what you do and who you help, add a touch of personality, and include a simple call to action. Use words people might search for. Update your bio when you have a new offer, event or link to share.

Example

A wedding photographer's bio reads "Relaxed, natural wedding photos across the coast. Booking next season now. Inquiries below."
