What is organic reach?

Organic reach is the number of unique people who see your social media content without you paying to promote it.

Organic reach shows how far your content travels on its own, through followers, shares and recommendations. It costs nothing but time, which makes it valuable for small businesses with tight budgets. Strong organic reach also tells you what your audience genuinely cares about.

Each network decides who sees your posts using its own algorithm. Engagement, relevance, timing and the type of content all play a part. On many networks, organic reach for business pages has become harder to earn over time, while short videos and posts that spark conversation are often favored. Most platforms show organic and paid reach separately in their analytics.

Focus on content people want to save, share or comment on. Post consistently and at times your audience is active. Reply to comments quickly to keep conversations going. Track which formats reach the most people and make more of what works.

Example

A yoga studio noticed its short how-to videos had far higher organic reach than its class schedule graphics, so it shifted its mix.
