Published data on Threads is thin. The only named 2026 study we could find with a stated method, Buffer's analysis of 2.5 million Threads posts, found weekday mornings between 6am and 11am in your audience's local time performed best, with Thursday at 9am the top slot and evenings the weakest. That is a reasonable first guess, but with only one study and limited method details, testing on your own account matters more on Threads than on any other network.

## Key takeaways

- Buffer's February 2026 study of 2.5 million Threads posts found weekday mornings, 6–11am local time, strongest.
- The single best slot was Thursday at 9am, followed by Wednesday at 12pm and Wednesday at 9am.
- Wednesday was the best day; Saturday was the worst, and evenings from 6pm to 11pm underperformed every day.
- Sprout Social's large 2026 best-times study does not cover Threads, so there is no second source to confirm Buffer's results.
- Use your own post history and a four-week test to find your best time.

## Where the data comes from

We only use timing data from named, published studies with a stated method. For Threads, we found one.

**Buffer.** [Buffer's best time to post on Threads](https://buffer.com/resources/the-best-time-to-post-on-threads/) was published in February 2026. It is based on 2.5 million Threads posts sent through Buffer. Buffer ranked hours and days by median engagement, defining engagement as likes, replies and reposts. Its data scientist adjusted the results so they can be read as local time.

What Buffer does not state on the page: the number of accounts in the sample and the date range of the data. That does not make the study useless, but it means we cannot judge how representative it is, or whether it reflects how Threads works today.

**What we did not find.** [Sprout Social's 2026 best times study](https://sproutsocial.com/insights/best-times-to-post-on-social-media/), the largest cross-network study we use elsewhere, covers Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok and X, but not Threads. We did not find another named 2026 Threads study with a transparent method, so we are not quoting other figures.

## Best times to post on Threads in 2026

According to Buffer's 2026 analysis, these were the best times on each day (local time):

| Day | Best time (local) |
|---|---|
| Monday | 12pm |
| Tuesday | 10am |
| Wednesday | 12pm |
| Thursday | 9am |
| Friday | 10am |
| Saturday | 10am |
| Sunday | 11am |

The top three slots overall were:

1. Thursday at 9am
2. Wednesday at 12pm
3. Wednesday at 9am

By day, Wednesday performed best, followed by Thursday and Tuesday. Saturday had the lowest engagement, Sunday was second-worst, and Monday underperformed compared with the other weekdays. Evenings from 6pm to 11pm "consistently underperformed across all days of the week."

### What this suggests

The pattern is clear even with one study: Threads, in Buffer's data, is a morning-to-midday network. Every day's best time falls between 9am and 12pm. That is earlier than the afternoon peaks Sprout Social reports for Instagram, so if you post the same content to both, it may be worth giving each network its own time slot rather than publishing both at once.

### Why so little data?

Threads is younger than the other big networks, and fewer analytics tools have years of history for it. Studies built on large tool datasets take time to catch up. Expect more published research as the network matures, and treat any single study, including this one, as provisional.

## How to find your own best time to post on Threads

With limited outside data, your own account is the best source.

### Step 1: Look at your post history

Threads has its own insights for your profile, with views and interactions for your posts. Note the day and time of your last 20 to 30 posts along with views, likes, replies and reposts. Look for any pattern by time of day.

If your Threads account is linked to an Instagram professional account, your Instagram follower activity can be a rough proxy for when your audience is online, since the two audiences often overlap. Treat it as a hint, not proof.

### Step 2: Pick two candidate slots

Make slot A a weekday morning, such as Thursday at 9am, which matches Buffer's data. Make slot B a real alternative that your history supports, such as Wednesday at 1pm or Tuesday at 5pm.

### Step 3: Run a four-week test

1. Post in slot A in weeks 1 and 3, and slot B in weeks 2 and 4.
2. Keep the post type similar, for example a short text post with one image.
3. Schedule each post in advance so it goes out exactly on time.
4. Reply to early responses quickly; conversation is the core of Threads.
5. Record views, interactions and engagement rate for each post.

### Step 4: Judge by engagement rate

Divide interactions (likes, replies, reposts and quotes) by views and compare the averages for each slot. See our [engagement rate](/social-media-terms/engagement-rate) definition for formula options.

| Week | Slot | Views | Interactions | Engagement rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A: Thu 9am | 900 | 41 | 4.6% |
| 2 | B: Wed 1pm | 1,050 | 39 | 3.7% |
| 3 | A: Thu 9am | 980 | 46 | 4.7% |
| 4 | B: Wed 1pm | 1,000 | 36 | 3.6% |

*Example figures for illustration only.*

Smaller accounts will see bigger swings from post to post, so if results are close, keep testing for another four weeks. Re-run the test every quarter, since a young network can change quickly.

## Scheduling your Threads times with PilotPost

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the best time to post on Threads in 2026?

According to Buffer's February 2026 study of 2.5 million posts, weekday mornings between 6am and 11am local time performed best, and Thursday at 9am was the top slot. It is the only named study with a stated method we found, so test it on your own account.

### What is the best day to post on Threads?

Wednesday, followed by Thursday and Tuesday, in Buffer's data. Saturday was the weakest day.

### Is evening a bad time to post on Threads?

In Buffer's data, yes: posts between 6pm and 11pm underperformed on every day of the week. If your audience is mostly online in the evening, test it anyway, because your followers may differ from Buffer's sample.

### Why is there so little data on Threads?

Threads is a newer network, and large studies rely on years of data from analytics and scheduling tools. Sprout Social's 2026 study, for example, does not include Threads. Expect more research over time.

### Should I post to Threads and Instagram at the same time?

Not necessarily. Buffer's Threads data favors mornings, while published Instagram data tends to favor afternoons. Scheduling each network at its own best time is easy when you plan from one calendar.
